Introductory GIM Course, 2025
Avalon GIM training announces an Introductory course in GIM in 2025. It will be conducted in two parts:
Part 1
July 5 & 6, 2025, 9:30 – 5:00 EST with scheduled breaks.
Part 1 will be held online and covers Intentional Listening, Supportive MI, Relaxation inductions and Music Choices for children and adults, individuals and groups.
Part 2
August 22-25
Part 2 will be an Introduction to the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music, including three dyads in which participants experience being a guide and being a recipient. Part 2 will be conducted in-person at the Treacy Centre, Parkville, Melbourne. It begins with dinner on Friday evening August 22nd and concludes after lunch on Monday August 25th.
Completion of both Part 1 and Part 2 are required to go into Advanced Training in GIM.

Prerequisites: A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent level of academic training and professional experience. Applicants also require their own professional indemnity insurance or evidence that they are covered by their place of work.
Training: Training consists of an Introductory Course followed by Advanced Training.

Professor Denise Grocke PhD, RMT, MT-BC, FAMI is a Primary Trainer with the Association for Music and Imagery (AMI) in the US, and a Primary Trainer with MIAA, and has conducted GIM trainings at all levels since 1995. She established Avalon GIM Training (Australia) in 2017 and conduct trainings at various times throughout the year.

Carolyn has been facilitating the Certificate Course since 2004. She also works as a psychotherapist in private practice and in community groups using a music and mindfulness approach.

Cherie Baxter holds a Bachelor of Music (Therapy), a Graduate Diploma in Guided Imagery and Music, a Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care, and a Certificate in Mindfulness Meditation and Compassion. She has been a Registered Music Therapist (RMT) since 1992, a Registered Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) Therapist since 2004, and an Assistant Trainer with the Music and Imagery Association of Australasia (MIAA) since 2023.
Cherie brings a wealth of experience to her practice, including supporting both introductory and advanced GIM training through Avalon Training. She works in private practice and facilitates community workshops that promote wellbeing, emotional support, and personal development.
With a deep commitment to holistic and embodied approaches, Cherie engages individuals and groups in present-moment awareness—supporting connection to body, feelings, values, and emerging potential. Her work fosters self-awareness, healing, and personal growth.
